Our History

On January 6th, 1974, Pastor Don Shockley met with eleven other individuals at the Sanford Garden Club Center to have the first weekly Sunday meeting of the Calvary Baptist Assembly. God blessed this small group of believers, and after just two months, they were able to take on four missionaries for support. Within one year, their support had increased to seven missionaries, two of which were sent from their local church.

The church family transitioned to a building on Sanford Avenue in 1975, began a bus ministry, and one year later purchased the property on Country Club Road in Lake Mary. After construction of the new building, the name was officially changed to Countryside Baptist Church.

In 1979, Avery Long became the pastor and served faithfully until the year 2000. Taking the pastorate one month later, Shane Wynn led the church until 2007 when God called him to pastor a church in West Virginia. Tim Morrissey stepped in as interim pastor for one year and was then voted as full-time pastor in 2008; he ministered faithfully until December of 2017 and then stepped down from the pastorate. In May of 2018, Mychael Eikenberry became Countryside’s pastor, and is leading the church forward by faith!
